Safety Course
There will be important new changes to the Learner's permit application and to the PA Motorcycle Safety courses:
New Learner Permit Regulations
as of 01/09/06 Customers will be required to download an application form (DL-5) from the MSP web site, or pick one up from the normal locations. Form DL-31A will no longer be valid. Customers will be required to take the completed application and $10 fee to his/her local Driver License Center. (they will no longer be accepted through the mail) A driver license examiner will administer the Motorcycle Knowledge Test, if you pass the exam the results will be credited to your driving record and the application will be processed. You can then practice riding during daylight hours only. The customer may then schedule the "M" skills test at the Driver's Center or schedule a class through MSP.
Classes 2007
Classes will again be available for on line scheduling, and customers are encouraged to use this method rather than phone line. Schedules will no longer be mailed to dealers, but will be available on the MSP web site.
ERC
Big news concerning the Experienced Riders Course, the MSP is expecting approval for licensing of this course in 2007. This will allow experienced riders who have never been licensed to take their own motorcycles through this 6 hour class and get licensed.
Coaches
There is still an overwhelming need for rider coaches by the MSP. Please see the website for details for becoming a MSP part time rider coach.
New posters will be sent to dealers as soon as possible and updates will be made to the MSP website very soon. Check often, it is not too soon to start thinking about riding courses for this coming Spring.
